HC Deb 24 June 1974 vol 875 c323W
Mr. Clemitson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is satisfied that animals trained to perform in circuses are sufficiently protected from cruel treatment by the operation of existing law.

Dr. Summerskill

We have no reason to believe that the protection afforded to circus animals under the Protection of Animals Act 1911 and the Performing Animals (Regulation) Act 1925 is inadequate.
