asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many women have enlisted in the RUC Reserve from January 1974 to the latest available date in June; and how these numbers compare with the previous months of recruitment.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

From 1st January 1974 to 1st June 1974, 28 women enlisted in the Royal Ulster Constabulary Reserve. During the previous five months of 1973, 47 women enlisted.

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many men have enlisted in the RUC from January 1974 to the latest available date in June; and how these numbers compare with the numbers for the same period in 1972 and 1973.

From 1st January 1974 to 17th June 1974, 117 men enlisted in the Royal Ulster Constabulary. The comparable figures for 1972 and 1973 were 138 and 107.
