§ Mr. Stan Newensasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what has been the total commercial production of tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuces and cut flowers, respectively, for each of the last three years for which figures are available.
§ Mr. BuchanThe information requested is as follows:
employed and individual circumstances. I do not consider that it would be meaningful to make any general assessment of profitability. As explained in my statement to the House on 19th June, the United Kingdom guide price for beef is shortly to be increased by 10 per cent. This should help confidence in the beef sector. The prospects for beef producers in the longer term are good, and our aim is to ensure that future supplies of home fed beef are maintained.
§ Mr. Wintertonasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what recent representations he has received from the English beef and pig producing industries concerning the effects of Her Majesty's Government's policies; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. BuchanWe have received various representations concerning the beef and pig industries recently and announced on 19th June measures to support the returns of producers in these sectors. We have already opened discussions with the interests concerned on the longer-term future of the agricultural industry, including the livestock sectors.
