HC Deb 21 June 1974 vol 875 cc259-60W
Mr. Biffen

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the latest assessment he has made of the profitability of the United Kingdom pig and beef industries; to what extent future supplies of home produced pigmeat and beef are affected by current economic conditions; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peart

On the prospects[...]or pig producers I would refer the hon. Member to the reply I have given today to the right hon. Member for Cambridgeshire (Mr. Pym).

Levels of return for beef producers vary widely according to the methods it is related to the size of enterprise. Questions on taxation are matters for my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer and I would refer to the answer given on 20th May to the hon. Member for Macclesfield (Mr. Winterton).
