§ Mr. Pymasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he is aware that the present market price for beef has declined to little more than £16 per live cwt. in many markets; and if he will now indicate at what level he is prepared to intervene on the market to ensure that the beef market does not collapse.
§ Mr. PeartI do not believe that buying up meat and freezing it is a sensible or effective way of supporting producers' returns. I have already announced that the beef guide price will rise by 10 per cent. in the United Kingdom on 1st July. I shall be continuing to watch the situation carefully to see if further measures are needed to secure producers' returns.
