HC Deb 19 June 1974 vol 875 c153W
36. Mr. Kenneth Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what discussions have taken place between the United Kingdom Embassy and representatives of the Yugoslav Foreign Ministry regarding an incident at an airport in Yugoslavia between Yugoslav police and customs officials and an England footballer; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Hattersley

On the evening of the incident—2nd June—Her Majesty's Embassy telephoned the Yugoslav Foreign Ministry to ask for a full investigation. This request was repeated in writing the following day. The reply of the Foreign Ministry was given to Her Majesty's Ambassador by the Head of the West European Department of the Foreign Ministry at 10 a.m. on 3rd June. I understand it is the wish of all parties that the incident should be regarded as closed.
