HC Deb 18 June 1974 vol 875 c134W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if, in her discussions with the retail consortium on voluntary price restraint, she sought or obtained an assurance that the major grocery chains would charge uniform prices for basic foodstuffs throughout Great Britain so that Scottish housewives might obtain the full benefit for the voluntary agreement.

Mr. Maclennan

No. The extent to which prices of items covered by the agreement will be reduced will be decided by each individual retailer in the light of his own circumstances. But Scottish housewives will obtain full benefit from the agreement, since, in Scotland as in the rest of the United Kingdom, prices for these items will be lower than they would otherwise have been.
