§ Mr. Edwin Wainwrightasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many nurses and midwives, respectively, are registered within the National Health Service in the Trent Regional Hospital Board area at the latest available date; and how many are required to bring numbers up to the full complement.
§ Dr. OwenAs at 30th September 1973, 21,788 nurses and 1,375 midwives— 95W whole-time equivalents—were employed in hospitals by the former Sheffield Regional Hospital Board and by the former Board of Governors of the United Sheffield Hospitals. The planning objective nurse staffing level of the regional hospital board, to be achieved over a number of years, was 25,546 at the same date. Comparable figures for the successor Trent Regional Health Authorrity, whose geographical area of responsibility excludes South Humberside, are not available.
