HC Deb 18 June 1974 vol 875 c94W
Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many agency nurses and midwives, respectively, are being employed by the Trent Regional Hospital Board at the latest available date; and what are the rates of pay given to these agency nurses and midwives in comparison to the regular staff.

Dr. Owen

16 agency nurses and 12 agency midwives. The national salary scale for NHS staff nurses was set out in my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Northampton, North (Mrs. Colquhoun) on 8th May.—[Vol. 873, c.186.] The comparative salary scale for midwives is £1,368 to £1,755 per annum. There are no fixed rates of pay for agency staff; but salaries for agency hospital nurses and midwives working in the Trent Region and based on a 40-hour week would fall between £1,362-£1,664 per annum and between £1,664-£1,872 per annum, respectively.
