HC Deb 14 June 1974 vol 874 c667W
Mr. Viggers

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what diagnosis has been made of the gastric affliction which was widespread last summer in the Gosport and Fareham areas and known locally by various names including "the Fareham bug"; and what steps are being taken to prevent a recurrence this year.

Dr. Owen

The diagnosis was "acute non-bacterial gastroenteritis". The cause of the illness is not known and consequently no practical measures can be taken to prevent its recurring. However, no recurrence of the disease has been reported.
