HC Deb 13 June 1974 vol 874 cc620-1W
Mr. Pattie

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many applications there were to become driving examiners in the first quarter of 1974.

Mr. Mulley

Two thousand five hundred and sixty-seven.

Mr. Pattie

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what percentage of those applying to become examiners in the first quarter of 1974 were accepted; and what percentage of those accepted qualified.

Mr. Mulley

The selection process comprises an interview and, for those reaching the required standard at interview, a special driving test. During the first quarter of 1974 about 42 per cent. of those who applied were accepted for interview. Of these, 673 were interviewed, 117 went forward to the special driving test and 79 passed.
