§ 31. Mr. Goodhartasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what special study he is making of speed limits in view of the decline in fatal accidents during the period when special speed restrictions were in force as a result of fuel scarcity.
§ Mr. MulleyA study is being made of the complex factors, including speed limits, which affected road safety during the period of the fuel shortage. I hope to report on this in the autumn. Provisional results only confirm what has been known for a long time: that lower speeds are associated with fewer accidents.
