HC Deb 11 June 1974 vol 874 cc536-7W
Mr. Burden

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will now widen the function of the advisory committee set up on a recommendation of the 1906–12 Royal Commission on Vivisection, to advise him on administration of the regulations controlling animal experimentation with a strengthening of its membership to include lay persons.

Dr. Summerskill

The kind of issues which have to be determined by the Advisory Committee on the Administration of the Cruelty to Animals Act 1876 are scientific and technical, and the present committee is constituted accordingly. My right hon. Friend has no present plans for widening its function.
