HC Deb 11 June 1974 vol 874 cc495-6W
27. Mr. Parker

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether Laporte Industries plant on the border of Barking and Ilford uses a similar process to those of the Flixborough plant; and whether it provides a hazard to the Uphall Road school.

Mr. Harold Walker

The Laporte Industries plant at Ilford uses processes to oxidize cyclohexane to produce cyclohexanone which in part are similar to those at Flixborough. The processes are on a much smaller scale and products other than cyclohexanone are also produced which were absent at Flixborough. The hazards arising from premises of this kind to the surrounding area is a matter which the public inquiry will need to consider. My right hon. Friend hopes to be able to announce the terms of reference of this inquiry shortly.
