HC Deb 10 June 1974 vol 874 cc469-70W
Mr. Hayhoe

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what are the latest figures for unemployed and for unfilled vacancies in the Hounslow, Brentford, Isleworth and Chiswick area; and how these compare in percentage terms with the figures for London and the South-East Region and the whole of England.

Mr. Harold Walker

In May 1974, 658 people were unemployed in the Hounslow and Brentford and Chiswick employment office areas. In the same areas a total of 3,533 job vacancies were recorded at employment offices and 447 at careers offices. The vacancy figures relate only to vacancies notified to employment offices and careers offices and do not measure the total unsatisfied demand for labour. Unemployment rates are not calculated for separate parts of Greater London which is regarded as a single travel-to-work area.
