HC Deb 10 June 1974 vol 874 c470W
Mall Incident (Pistol) Mr. Farr

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the result of police inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the use of a pistol in the Mall on 20th March; in particular, whether inquiries have revealed the origin of the pistol and ammunition and how it came into the possession of the assailant on that night; and if it is recorded as ever having been legally held by a firearm certificate holder.

Dr. Summerskill

The Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis tells me that the two firearms in the possession of the assailant, together with two boxes of ammunition, were bought by him in Madrid and smuggled into this country. He did not have a firearm certificate for the weapons.
