§ Mr. Freudasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations he has received since taking office from the Campaign for Comprehensive Education; and what replies have been given in relation to the objectives of that organisation.
§ Mr. ArmstrongMy right hon. Friend saw representatives of the Campaign for Comprehensive Education on 4th April, when they asked him to take steps to ensure the end of selection within a specified period of time. Since then my right hon. Friend has issued Circular 4/74, reaffirming the Government's policy of developing a fully comprehensive system of secondary education and of ending selection at 11-plus or at any other stage. The circular calls upon local education authorities to inform him by the end of 1974 of the measures they propose to take to complete the process of reorganisation in those areas where selection still operates.
