On most occasions the flagstaffs were specially erected and dismantled for a particular visit. However, it was possible on one occasion to leave all the poles in position for two closely spaced visits. On two other occasions when visits took place, shortly before and after the Trooping Ceremony, some posts were left in position while others were resited in Horse Guards Approach Road.
