HC Deb 31 July 1974 vol 878 cc412-3W
Mr. MacCormick

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will take steps to give full professional recognition under the Social Work Acts to those social workers who were deemed to be fully qualified before 1968.

Dr. Owen

I assume that the hon. Member is referring to persons holding qualifications in social science. The question of recognising these is a matter for the Central Council for Education and Training in Social Work which is an independent body. I understand that the council, like the bodies which preceded it, has not accepted that qualifications in social science are the equivalent of a professional training in social work.
