HC Deb 31 July 1974 vol 878 cc278-9W
35. Sir David Renton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he is aware that in this financial year the rate support grant covers only 51 per cent. of the expenditure of the new Cambridgeshire County Council as compared with the national average of 60 per cent.; and whether he will immediately increase the amount of financial support.

Mr. Oakes

The percentage of expenditure met by rate support grant varies from authority to authority because the grant is distributed in accordance with variations between authorities in their spending needs and rateable resources. I see no reason for a special increase in Cambridgeshire's grant for the current financial year.

Mr. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the amount of specific and block grants to local government to the parliamentary constituency of Leek for the fiscal year 1973–74.

Mr. Oakes

For specific grants, the information is not yet available. For rate support grant, the estimated amounts are as follows:

Dr. Edmund Marshall
