HC Deb 31 July 1974 vol 878 cc287-8W
Mrs. Winifred Ewing

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what fees and allowances are payable to legal and lay part-time reporters (inspectors) of public local planning inquiries in England.

Mr. John Silkin

Fees for lay inspectors are £21.30 or £26.00 a day depending on the complexity and duration of the inquiry. Corresponding rates for barristers range from £25 to £35 a day, again depending on complexity and duration. Inspectors travelling expenses are reimbursed and they are eligible for subsistence allowances at normal Civil Service rates—night rates, £9.50 in London and £8.65 elsewhere, and day rates, £0.66 for absences under 10 hours and £1.45 for absences over 10 hours.
