How many personnel from the British Army are employed in Malta on work being done for the public works department which would normally be done by Malta Government employees; and why they agreed to provide professional manpower to the Malta Government with a view to breaking a strike of the Malta Government Professional Officers Association.
§ LORD BRAYLEYA specialist team of Royal Engineers is in Malta under2374WA the terms of an agreement made with the Maltese Government in 1972 to assist The Director of Public Works Department, Malta, in the design, planning and implementation of projects to further the island's development. Its present strength is six officers and 19 men and its programme of work is primarily a matter for the Maltese Government. The team has not undertaken any new projects during 1974 and there can therefore be no question of the team being involved in an industrial dispute which began in February of this year.
