§ Mr. Geoffrey Finsbergasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prosecutions under the London Cab Act 1970 have been initiated within the Metropolitan Police area since it became law; how many convictions have resulted; what have been the highest and lowest penalties, all to the latest convenient date.
§ Dr. SummerskillI assume that the hon. Member is referring to prosecutions under the London Cab Acts 1968 and 1973, which restricted, or gave power to restrict, the display of signs on private hire cars. There have been 150 prosecutions under the former Act; 101 convictions have resulted; and fines have been imposed ranging from £2 to £15. In addition 27 prosecutions have been initiated for breach of the London Cab (No. 2) Order 1973 made under the latter Act; 16 convictions have so far resulted; and fines have been imposed ranging from £3 to £20.
