§ Mr. Moateasked the Lord President of the Council if there is a secretarial allowance paid to Members who are members of the European Assembly; and, if, so, what is the annual amount and if it is subject to United Kingdom taxation.
§ Mr. Edward ShortAllowances paid to members of the European Assembly are the concern of that assembly. However, I understand that such members may reclaim the cost of private engaged secretaries' assistance within a limit of 200 ua a month, equivalent in value to about £1,000 a year at current rates. As this payment is in reimbursement of actual expenditure it would not normally attract United Kingdom income tax.
