§ Mr. Michael Robertsasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make proposals for reducing the impact of direct taxation on the elderly.
§ Dr. GilbertI have noted the hon. Members' suggestion; but I would remind them that in this year's Budget my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer increased the figures for the income tax age exemption from £700 to £810 for a single person, and from £1,000 to £1,170 for a married couple. My right hon. Friend also increased the limit for marginal age exemption relief.
