§ Mr. Denis HowellThe table below shows the acreage of land reclaimed year by year in each of the standard English regions. The figures are derived from surveys carried out by local authorities from 1964 onwards; information about the type of agency responsible for reclamation is available only for 1972. The present usage of the reclaimed areas is not known in detail, but most land reclaimed by local authorities is used for public open space or agriculture.

§ Mr. Denis HowellThe tables below give for each of the pre-1974 standard regions the acreage of derelict land reclaimed by all agencies during the years 1964 to 1972 inclusive and the expenditure by local authorities on reclamation in the financial years 1968–69 to 1973–74 inclusive. The acreage figures are based on surveys carried out by local authorities; 1973 figures are not yet available. No regional breakdown of local authority expenditure is available for financial years before 1968–69 and I have no figures for private expenditure on reclamation.
