§ 33. Mr. Normantonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received from Members of Parliament and members of the general public against his decision to admit refugees from Chile.
§ Mr. Alexander W. LyonOf some 80 communications concerning the admission of refugees from Chile since the present Government took office, only a small proportion indicated opposition to their admission.
§ Mr. Laneasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many of the Chilean refugees admitted up to 30th June arrived in the United Kingdom (a) 210W from Chile, (b) from other South or Central American countries, (c) from European countries and (d) from elsewhere.
§ Mr. Alexander W. LyonComprehensive entry figures are not available, but of the 114 refugees from Chile known to have arrived in this country by 26th July 42 arrived from Chile itself and 72 via other South American countries. In addition 44 Chileans here at the time of the coup were allowed to stay. A man is no less a refugee because he comes here via a third country.
