HC Deb 31 July 1974 vol 878 c277W
Mr. Channon

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what representations she has received about the shortage of cheese as a consequence of the milk and cheese subsidies; and what action she proposes to take thereon.

Mr. Maclennan

My right hon. Friend has discussed with representatives of the dairy industry the likely effect of the existing subsidies on demand for milk and milk products. I am satisfied that there is no overall shortage of cheese; there has been a reduction in imports of cheddar, but there are plentiful supplies of other types of cheese. My right hon. Friend will continue to keep the situation under review in consultation with my right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
