HC Deb 31 July 1974 vol 878 c267W
Mr. Biffen

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what reply he has given to the scheme proposed by the British Agricultural Export Council for the export of live calves by air to Greece, Egypt and Turkey; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Bishop

I have advised the BAEC that the present ban on the issue of licences to export live animals other than for breeding and exhibition purposes would preclude the Calf Scheme that they have in mind and that the ban must continue in force until Parliament has been given an opportunity to debate these issues. Consultations with the many interests involved, at home and overseas, are proceeding as quickly as possible.
