HC Deb 30 July 1974 vol 878 cc195A-6A W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether the post of public relations consultant to his Department was advertised; how many applicants were considered for the post; who appointed Mr. Michael Cudlipp; and what are the terms of his contract of service, including the period of employment.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

Mr. Cudlipp was recruited and appointed by the Northern Ireland Office as it was considered that his professional abilities and experience as a journalist fitted him for the special requirements of consultant on public relations. His appointment is initially for four months, with option of extension if necessary, and in these circumstances the question of advertisment did not arise. Mr. Cudlipp has the status of a temporary civil servant.
