HC Deb 30 July 1974 vol 878 cc142-3W
Mr. Newens

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether it is his policy to review the permits of foreign nationals with permission to stay in the United Kingdom for a visit and to reduce their period of stay if they travel abroad during this time.

Mr. Alexander W. Lyon

In accorddance with the Immigration Rules for Control on Entry (H.C. 81 paragraph 48), when a passenger whose stay in the United Kingdom was subject to a time limit returns after a temporary absence abroad his application to re-enter is dealt with in the light of all the relevant circumstances; the same time limit and any conditions attached may be re-imposed, or it may be more appropriate to treat him as a new arrival.
