HC Deb 29 July 1974 vol 878 c10W
Mr. Mudd

asked the Secretary of State for Industry to what extent the South-West Development Area has benefited from regional policies since April 1970; and if he will itemise the estimated amounts received from investment allowances, investment grants and regional employment premia.

Mr. Heffer

Like all other assisted areas, the South-West Development Area has, since it was designated in 1966, benefited from the Government's regional policies, including the availability of generous financial assistance to industry. Full figures for investment allowances and investment grants are not available in the form requested, but £5.8 million was paid in investment grant in the first year. For each of the years since 1970 some £2 million has been paid in regional employment premium in the South-West Development Area, making a total of £8 million from April 1970 to March 1974.
