HC Deb 29 July 1974 vol 878 cc10-1W
Mr. Mudd

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will state the intended locations of advance factories in Cornwall, the date of designation of each, the intended sizes of each; when work was started or is intended to start on construction; the anticipated dates for occupancy; and the number of anticipated jobs each factory is designed to create.

Intended location Date announced Size Building starts
sq. ft. metres
Callington January 1973 10,000 930 October 1974
Camborne January 1973 20,000 1,860 Not yet known
Newquay January 1969 10,000 930 March 1974
Penryn January 1973 20,000 1,860 Not yet known
Truro June 1967 10,000 930 September 1973
Hayle July 1974 10,000 930 1975

Because of continuing difficulties connected with the siting of the factories at Camborne and Penryn it is not yet possible to say when building there will start. Efforts are being made to obtain suitable tenants for the remaining factories. The number of jobs in each of the 10,000 sq. ft. factories is expected to be about 40, and 80 in those of 20,000 sq. ft., but the numbers depend on the type of work eventually introduced by the tenants.
