asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many beds are available for mentally sick cases per 1,000 population in the United Kingdom.

In England and Wales in 1973 the average daily number of available hospital beds for the mentally ill was 2.3 per 1,000 population. There was also an average of 1.2 available hospital beds for the mentally handicapped per 1,000 population.
