§ 32. Mr. Scott-Hopkinsasked the Secretary of State for Trade what was the total volume of trade, imports and exports, between the EEC and the United Kingdom in the periods January to June 1973, July to December 1973 and January to June 1974; and by how much the tariff, both in and out of the United Kingdom, has varied, on average, during British membership of the EEC.
§ Mr. DeakinsFigures of the volume of trade between the EEC and the United Kingdom are not available. In terms of value, on a seasonally adjusted basis, imports c.i.f., for the periods in question, were £2,304 million, £2,893 million and £3,617 million respectively; corresponding exports f.o.b. were £1,836 million, £2,195 million and £2,642 million. In general, tariffs on trade between the United Kingdom and the original members of the EEC were reduced by 20 per cent. of their pre-accession rate on 1st April 1973, and by a further 20 per cent. on 1st January 1974.
