HC Deb 29 July 1974 vol 878 c94W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what steps he is taking to remedy the water situation in Donaghadee by eliminating the bad taste, smell and colour of the water; and what part intensive farming adjacent to the reservoir has played in the present situation.

Mr. Moyle

The Northern Ireland Department of the Environment, which now has responsibility for water services, is arranging for the installation of sedimentation tanks and activated carbon filters. When this work is completed—which should be within a few months—there should be some improvement. There are seasonal difficulties in controlling the quality of water in this area. There is no evidence to show that intensive farming is affecting the quality.
