Mr. Russell Johnston

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) how many men over the age of 21 years were earning less than £20 per week in England and Wales on 1st January 1972, 1st July 1972, 1st January 1973 and 1st July 1973;

(2) how many men in Scotland over the age of 21 years were earning less than £20 per week on 1st January 1972, 1st July 1972, 1st January 1973 and 1st July 1073.

Estimates are available only for April each year from the New Earnings Survey. The following relate to full-time men aged 21 and over in manual and non-manual occupations whose pay for the survey reference period was not affected by absence:
