HC Deb 24 July 1974 vol 877 cc473-4W
72. Sir D. Walker-Smith

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment why, his Department having accepted an in- vitation to send a representative to a public meeting convened at Little Hadham, Herts, on Friday 5th July to discuss traffic problems and possible solutions thereto, no representative in fact turned up; and if, in spite of this failure to attend, he will give sympathetic consideration to the views expressed and the proposals put forward at this meeting.

Mr. Carmichael

I regret that the parish council was not told that my Department did not propose to send a representative to the meeting. An apology for any misunderstanding has been sent to the council.

Responsibility for consideration of the proposals put forward at the meeting rests with Hertfordshire County Council as local highway authority. But I understand that the installation of traffic control signals at the Little Hadham crossroads has already been authorised. A decision on the proposal to reduce the speed limit through the village will be announced shortly.
