HC Deb 24 July 1974 vol 877 cc476-7W
Sir John Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will set up a committee to look into the condition of people living in caravans and mobile homes on private provided sites.

Mr. Kaufman

I have at present no plans to do so, but I will be considering the general question of mobile homes when I have the final results of the talks going on between representatives of caravan dwellers and site operators.

Sir John Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will seek powers to give caravan dwellers and mobile home owners the right of appeal to rent tribunals to buy and sell where and when they wish and to leave their homes to their next of kin.

Mr. Kaufman

This would not be a practicable way of dealing with the common situation where a caravan or mobile home belongs to an individual—who can dispose of it as he wishes—but its site does not belong to him. I shall, however, be looking into general problems such as this when I have the results of the talks going on between representatives of caravan dwellers and site operators.
