§ Mr. Trotterasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will give financial assistance by way of (a) grants and (b) loans at special rates of interest to the proprietors of small hotels and guest houses in respect of expenditure recently incurred in installing fire escapes and other alterations required by the fire authorities.
§ Dr. SummerskillA loans scheme administered by local authorities under the Fire Precautions (Loans) Act 1973 is available to the proprietors of the smaller hotels and boarding houses. My right hon. Friend does not consider that grants from public funds would he justified for this purpose.
