Mr. Alexander Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what is the total tonnage of coal imported for each month since January up to the nearest available date; which countries is it obtained from; and at what total cost to the National Coal Board.

Mr. Deakins

331,000, 171,000, 271,000, 233,000 and 395,000 tonnes, respectively, for the first five months of 1974, mainly from the USA, Poland and Australia, at a total cost of £21 million. There were no imports by the National Coal Board.
