HC Deb 23 July 1974 vol 877 c427W
Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the estimated cost of providing a flat rate widow's pension as of right for widowed women under 50 years of age.

Mr. O'Malley

If widows at present receiving no pension, and those receiving reduced rate pensions, were awarded a £10 a week flat-rate pension the cost to she National Insurance Fund would be £30 million a year. There would be some taving of supplementary benefit.
