HC Deb 23 July 1974 vol 877 cc425-6W
Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what was the level of unemployment benefit as a percentage of average industrial earnings in each year from 1966 to 1973;

(2) what was the level of sickness benefit as a percentage of average industrial earnings in each year from 1966 to 1973.

Mr. O'Malley

The information requested is set out in the following table. It represents sickness benefit—including appropriate earnings-related supplement—plus family allowances as a percentage of net average earnings plus family allowances, for a man with a dependent wife and two dependent children and relates to both unemployment and sickness benefit.
