HC Deb 23 July 1974 vol 877 c447W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Energy how much of the steel pipe required for marine pipelines for the transportation of oil and natural gas from the North Sea is purchased from abroad and how much locally.

Mr. Strang

At present all the thick wall, large diameter steel pipe required for submarine lines for oil in the United Kingdom sector of the North Sea is purchased from abroad. However, about 20 per cent. of the gas pipelines laid in the southern part of the North Sea has been supplied by the United Kingdom steel industry.
