HC Deb 23 July 1974 vol 877 cc446-7W
Mr. Michael Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether the 30 per cent. increase in domestic tariffs recently agreed reflects the total allowance increase or whether there is provision for the boards to impose further upward adjustments.

Mr. Eadie

The tariff increase was effected by introducing fuel cost adjustment clauses and the announced increase of about 30 per cent. was the expected effect on average domestic bills going out during the three months from the beginning of August. Under the revised notification order any proposed increase in the fuel cost adjustment after 15th October is notifiable to the Price Commission. In addition, the Government have made it clear to the industry that any price increase above the level already agreed must also be subject to further consideration by the Government.
