HC Deb 23 July 1974 vol 877 cc410-1W
Mr. Ted Fletcher

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the total number of staff in his Department that he considers could be dispersed to the regions, irrespective of the Hardman Report's recommendations.

Mr. Prentice

Dispersal in excess of that recommended by the Hardman Report could not be achieved without unacceptable loss of efficiency. About one-third of the Department's staff is already based outside London and no further dispersal is proposed.
