HC Deb 23 July 1974 vol 877 cc448-9W
Mr. Ridsdale

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) when he proposes to introduce a marking system for road tankers and other vehicles carrying dangerous substances;

(2) what regulations have so far been introduced on the advice of his standing advisory committee on dangerous substances as far as their carriage is concerned; and what further action he has in mind.

Dr. Summerskill

Regulations covering basic safety precautions, marking and packaging have been made in respect of the carriage of inflammable and corrosive substances and organic peroxides. Further regulations are being prepared to control the construction and operation of vehicles used to convey dangerous substances. A coding scheme for marking road tankers to indicate the action required in an emergency is also under consideration.
