HC Deb 22 July 1974 vol 877 c359W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what representations he has received from potato growers about the application of the scheme to purchase surplus ware potatoes; how many applications have been made in respect of what quantities of potatoes; how many applications have been rejected; how many tons this represents, and what loss to the farmer is involved.

Mr. Orme

1,837 applications, in respect of over 45,000 tons of unsorted potatoes, were received under the end-ofseason buying programme administered by the Northern Ireland Department of Agriculture. Although Northern Ireland potato producers have made representations about the operation of this scheme, no eligible offer has yet been rejected.
