asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what is the full establishment of the police force in Burton-on-Trent; and whether the force is currently up to establishment;

(2) what is the full establishment of the police force in the East Staffordshire District Council area other than Burtonon-Trent: and whether the force is currently up to establishment.

Dr. Summerskill

The establishment of Burton-on-Trent section of Staffordshire Constabulary, including the sub-divisional headquarters, is 100 and on 17th July there were 11 vacancies. The remainder of Burton-on-Trent division, which coincides in area with the East Staffordshire county district, has an establishment of 67, including the divisional headquarters, which has responsibility for the town area as well, and on 17th July had seven vacancies. The whole of the division also benefits from the services of the force headquarters, including the CID and the Traffic Division. The force as a whole had 170 vacancies on an establishment of 2,064.
