HC Deb 22 July 1974 vol 877 c379W
Dr. Edmund Marshall

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he now expects construction of the Armthorpe-Hatfield section of the M18 motorway to begin.

Mr. Carmichael

In keeping with my right hon. Friend's statement on 17th June—[Vol. 875, c.68–70.]—about the standards to be adopted in the design of new roads, he has decided that this section of the M18 motorway shall be a dual two-lane road instead of a dual three-lane road. The necessary redesign will inevitably involve some delay in the start of construction. I cannot yet say how long the delay will be but it will be kept to a minimum.
